bought this wireless receiver at a local radio shack for about 40 bucks because i don't have a phone line in my room and i needed internet after i relocated my computer from the office to my room. That was after the person floundered for half an hour when I was trying to explain to him that YES, I do get internet with it. took that long all the while he kept telling me if i can't get any internet service it means i must have some sort of interference which i don't because its just through one wall 10 feet away and then he resorted to telling me to start over and sorry that's all we can do, can we help you with anything else today. I cannot find patterns to solve the problem. Please don't buy this product. I contacted customer service. It constantly drops internet, at least 4 or 5 times a day as bad as every 5 minutes sometimes. But NO, it is not steady and cuts out constantly.
That was even worse than the product. The only advice I got was that I needed to install the software over again the exact same way as the first time. Pathetic. I wish i had just installed a phone line for less money and hooked up reliable corded internet.
This piece works just fine, I was going to buy it from Best Buys but after talking to one of their representatives and he metioned that he had one and it was and has been very good and durable for years, my next move was to order it used at a reduced price to receive the service quality of a new one. I am not disappointed.
We had a small computer, called a ThinkCenter, and it was too small to hold a traditional wireless adapter. You can use it to instantly add wireless to any computer that has a USB port, including a laptop. So, we purchased the Netgear USB wireless adapter. It works great. You will not need to open up the computer--no tools needed. Just plug it in and you are ready to go, wherever wireless internet service is available.NETGEAR WG111 Wireless USB 2.0 Adapter (54 Mbps)
I called Netgear Tech Support and spoke to Ralph, who had me try a number of things, none of which worked. The second one would not work at all, even though it saw my router with a 98% signal strength.
The original wireless card in the laptop had failed long ago and I had been using a Buffalo KG54, which was working great for about 2 years until it recently failed. What's great about it: Best Buy gave me my money backWhat's not so great: It doesn't workI bought the WG111V2 for my Compaq Presario V2000 laptop running XP Pro SP3 to connect to my Linksys WRT54G router.
I exchanged it for a new one from Best Buy. I bought the WG111 because it had good reviews. The first WG111 wouldn't work at all until I downloaded the latest driver from the Netgear website.
Then it worked great until it warmed up, then it wouldn't work at all (wouldn't even scan). I use the strongest security measure I can (don't broadcast SSID, WAP2 with a strong password, and enable MAC filtering for only the MACs I input), so I turned off all the security measure, but it still wouldn't connect.
He finally concluded that their Netgear WG111 was "incompatible" with my router and recommended I buy a Linksys Wireless Adapter.
This product is quite unreliable. I've had it only 8 days and it gets very hot and can't find the access point (in the next room) and the included software is quite unreliable with XP.
